So Proud!

KB families,

Wow! What a fun morning we shared as a grade level today. Kindergarten and specials teachers, along with administration, were delighted to see so many smiling faces as we cheered for all of our scholars and their successes!  It's truly been a wonderful year and one that we won't easily forget.

As we head into summer please know that while Mrs. Sleeba and I will be away from our computers we're leaving some resources for you on Google Classroom to help keep things fresh for the upcoming school year. Resources will be available tomorrow afternoon (5/22). There are ample links with ideas but if you were to pick one thing I'd recommend the Summer Activity Calendar. It has quick activities, specific to Lincoln, that can be done as frequently or as sporadically as you wish.

In addition, our membership on www.KidsA-Z.com has been extended through July 31st so please take advantage of the free online leveled books. While the Flight Check section has been disabled for recorded readings, your child can continue to read at their level and the program will automatically move them forward.

Thank you for an exceptional year and for being supportive and patient throughout.  Enjoy the time away to reset and refuel for whatever lies ahead next fall.

I’m confident that Great Hearts will put plans into action to create the safest possible environment and that I’ll be seeing you back on campus soon!

Our Last Week!

We're almost there!
As we approach the finish line for this school year, let's cross with some fun!
The workload for this final week has been greatly decreased and replaced with some lighthearted Spirit Week activities. From a student time capsule activity, Spalding done in Spirit- Week- style and story books read by Lincoln kindergarten teachers, it’s the perfect conclusion to a year of diligence.

Spirit Week:
Monday- Crazy Hair Day
Tuesday- Pajama Day
Wednesday- Super Hero Day
Thursday- Blue and Gold/ Lightening Day
Friday- Beach Day

Please also join in the kinder commencement drive- thru ceremony this Thursday, May 21st. Our class begins at 8:15am. Feel free to help create an air of excitement and celebration by decorating your car so we have a parade of enthusiasm. Please don't forget to place your family ID number placard on your dash before entering the driveway. We also ask that you help mitigate the spread of germs to staff and families by following guidelines for COVID-19 and wearing a face covering to receive your child's certificate at the conclusion of the drive thru.  Mrs. Sleeba and I are excited to see everyone and celebrate our year of growth at this momentous occasion.

It's amazing to think back to when our journey started with your child and compare that fledgling student who first entered the classroom to the scholar that we have now. What a difference 10 months makes in the heart and mind of an Archway Lincoln student. Think back on how much they have matured physically and emotionally and the growth they have attained academically from reading more and more independently to solving math and situational problems on their own.  We're delighted by your child's achievements and have loved being a part of their academic journey. We're also excited to see where it all leads and encourage you to keep us abreast of their future accomplishments.

I'm looking forward to the day we can be back on campus again but until then, stay safe and have a relaxing and refueling summer break.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Bagby

Spalding Videos & Finger Gym Resources

During the upcoming summer months it will be beneficial to your child to make a return to some handwriting basics. The link provided offers Great Hearts' videos that include both correct letter formation and sounds of all our 70 phonograms. Challenge your child to follow along.
*Proper handwriting is essential and allows for ease into cursive.

Use videos as often as you'd like but please be sure to review before the start of the new school year.

Remember to keep those hands strong by utilizing some Finger Gym activities provided below or create your own strengthening exercises.

Here are fun ways to build fine motor skills.
1. Draw and color pictures (using broken crayons promotes better grip): create a comic or book, copy characters from a book, magazine or favorite show
2. Build with small Legos
3. Cut and create crafts with art supplies (you can even use the fun blade scissors)
4. Tear art- tearing different colored paper and gluing to create a design
5. Practice correct letter formation by writing in salt, sugar, whipped cream or shaving cream on a cookie sheet
6. Single hand hole punch
7. Use tweezers/tongs/clothespins to pick up or move small objects out of egg carton.
8. Use bread dough, pizza dough, etc., to squeeze with index finger and thumb to hunt for dried pieces of pasta hidden inside
9. Place coins, beads, Legos into play dough to pull out
10. Roll, cut, squeeze, design with play dough or putty
11. Place washcloth or hand towel under water, have your child wring out the water
12. Use water bottle to squirt out water on cement/sidewalk.  Have them squirt to make shapes and letters.
