Spalding Homework

Nightly reading of Leveled Readers starts in Quarter 2.  This was discussed at conferences but to review:
 1. Your child will bring home two books each week and is responsible for reading one nightly .
2. One book should be challenging but able to be read in 15 minutes.  Working on the included Sight Word Strip also counts toward total reading time.
3. The Reading Log  must be filled out nightly and the entire book bag, returned daily, even if it’s unread.
4. If you feel a level is either too easy or hard, please wait until your child has tried ample books at the level before suggesting so on the Reading Log.

BOOK ETIQUETTE
We have discussed rules as a class; please help to reinforce them at home.

  • Books live in either our book bags or our hands.  They don’t belong on countertops, tables, floors or with siblings or pets.
  • Books belong in clean hands. We don’t eat or drink while reading.
  • Students are responsible for books. Only students move books in and out of bags, not parents (your job is the Reading Log).

Spalding Homework continues with the addition of Spelling Words.  These are also our sight words.  Please send both homework and the agenda back daily in the Green Folder.

  • Homework Agenda  Details homework for each night including which Spalding flashcards to practice and which phonograms and words to write, twice!  Return with parent initials daily.
  • Completed Work and Flyers These will continue to come home predominately, but not exclusively, on Fridays.

Please send the materials back in to school grouped in the same manner they arrived at home.  This will help ensure we maintain our speedy unpacking procedure in the morning.
***Remember, kindergarten doesn't have homework on Fridays.
